Athletes Should Not Be Role Models

New blog Post on Edutechation that updates new Stupid Athlete moments.

Pitcher and animal rights activist Mark Buehrle told MLB.com he had wished Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick would get hurt during this past season. That info was removed from his interview on the web site a short time later, but was still on the Twitter site of the writer.

This the exact reason athletes should not be held up as role models. Buehrle has the right to his opinion, but he should not be expressing a desire for another person to be injured. That sets a bad example for kids that do watch and listen to sports. They think that what he said is appropriate and acceptable.

It’s not, and has no place in our society. Children need guidance and instruction in the proper way to express themselves. Parents need to take the lead, not people like Mark Buehrle or Michael Vick.
