NHL Playoff Predictions Round 1 Update

The first round was long this year. More 7 games series than I have ever seen. While I didn’t predict the amount of games to well,  I didn’t do too bad picking the winners.

Here is how I did:

Eastern Conference:

No. 1 Washington Capitals vs. No. 8 New York Rangers : Caps in 5 – Nailed this on the Head
No. 2 Philadelphia Flyers vs. No. 7 Buffalo Sabres : Flyers in 6 – Winner again, off 1 game
No. 3 Boston Bruins vs. No. 6 Montreal Canadiens : Habs in 7 – Right amount of games Wrong team (Bruins)
No. 4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. No. 5 Tampa Bay Lightning : Pens in 5 – Not close on either Loss (TB)

2 – 2 in the East

Western Conference:

No. 1 Vancouver Canucks vs. No. 8 Chicago Blackhawks : Canucks in 5 – 7 games, Winner just barely
No. 2 San Jose Sharks vs. No. 7 Los Angeles Kings : Sharks in 5 – 6 games another winner
No. 3 Detroit Red Wings vs. No. 6 Phoenix Coyotes : Red Wings in 6 – Wings romped in 4, winner
No. 4 Anaheim Ducks vs. No. 5 Nashville Predators : Preds in 7 – 6 games instead of 7, but another winner

4 – 0 in the West

6 – 2 over all for the first round. I’m feeling pretty good about that, but the Penguins & Habs losing killed my Bracket to the Finals in the East. For the Semi’s here is my updated view:

East Semi’s:

Caps in 6 over the Lightning
Flyers in 5 over Bruins (if Pronger plays Bruins don’t stand a chance)

East Conference Championship:

Flyers over Caps in 7

The West stays the same as I went 4-0.

West Semi’s:

Canucks in 4 over Preds
Red Wings in 6 over the Sharks

Western Conference Championship:

Canucks in 5 over Red Wings

Stanley Cup Championship:

Canucks in 6 over Flyers

    • Yep. The Flyers go cold easily and we have trifecta goalie rotation going on. They are also only 18-10-8 (really 18-18 because the OT loses would be real loses in the playoffs) against the western conference. They are 3-3-2 against Pacific teams, and they just don’t play well against skill teams.

On the other hand, if the Flyers get hot against Lugo, they have a chance.
